Important safety and care information
As parents of two young children, we take safety very seriously. Our Multifunctional magnetic sun cover is a safe baby sun protection accessory as long as it is used as intended and with other baby safety guidelines in mind.
Please remember the following while using your magnetic sun cover.
The magnetic sun cover has been designed as a multifunctional sun protection accessory for day time use.
It is not a swaddle blanket designed for wrapping babies to sleep or for use as a cot/crib blanket. It can be safely used as a drape in prams, carriers and other casual settings, but when done so responsibly and under adult supervision.
Follow SIDS guidelines for safe sleep
Whenever your baby is asleep around our sun cover, always follow SIDS guidelines for safe sleep. Babies should never be left unsupervised and always ensure their faces remain uncovered.
Follow TICKS guidelines when baby wearing
The magnetic sun cover was designed with baby wearing in mind but remember to do so responsibly. Never cover your baby's face with the sun cover and always follow the TICKS rules for babywearing.
Tight - The carrier should be tight with your baby positioned high and upright with head support. Any loose carrier/sling fabric may cause your baby to slump down, restricting its breathing.
In view at all times - You should always be able to see your baby’s face by simply looking down. Ensure your baby’s face, nose and mouth remain uncovered by the carrier, sun cover and/or your body. Babies have suffocated while in slings and carriers.
Close enough to kiss - Your baby should be close enough to your chin that by tipping your head forward you can easily kiss your baby on top of its head.
Keep chin off the chest -Ensure your baby’s chin is up and away from their body. Your baby should never be curled so that its chin is forced onto its chest as this can restrict breathing.
Regularly check your baby. Babies can be in distress without making any noise or movement.
Supported back - Your baby’s back should be supported in a natural position with its tummy and chest against you. When bending over, support your baby with one hand behind its back and bend at the knees not at the waist.
Covering your pram
While our sun cover is air-permeable, please ensure you still have sufficient air flow gaps when using it as a pram shade. Completely covering prams with any fabric, especially while in the sun, can lead to increased temperatures inside the pram.
A safer way to use the magnetic sun cover as a pram shade is with directional shading. Cover the side of the pram the sun is coming from, leaving the other side open for air flow. Also leave any air vents of the pram open.
A 2023 University of Sydney study also found wetting lightweight breathable fabric with water before draping it over a pram can decrease the pram temperature by three degrees, and combining the damp cloth with a fan, reduces the temperature even more.
Functional loops
The magnetic sun cover consists of small functional fabric loops for attaching our adjustable straps for added uses and configurations. Please be mindful of little fingers and toes. Remember, always use under adult supervision.
Magnets
Our magnetic snaps are encased in a layered pouch and sewn into the product multiple times so they are inaccessible to babies, toddlers and children. It would take serious tampering to reveal the magnets or remove them. If a pouch tears or rips, please discontinue use of the product and contact us.
Our magnets have good strength and snap together fast. Always remember to keep skin clear when fastening the magnets (particularly when using as a hoodie or shawl) to avoid accidental pinching.
Adjustable straps
Our straps are useful accessories that can be used in a variety of ways, with and without the sun cover. Like with any other strap or cord, it is not a toy and can pose a hazard if left with a child unsupervised.
Consider additional sun protection
Our UPF 50+ rating only relates to the areas of skin that our products cover. Protection may be reducing if the material is wet, stretched or from the effects of normal wear or exposure to chemicals. For best sun protection use hats, clothing that provides maximum skin coverage, sunglasses, sunscreen and shade.
Accessories not in direct contact with skin do not provide protection against reflected or scattered solar ultraviolet radiation. Manipulations involved in manufacturing such as stretching or sewing may lower the UPF rating. For optimal sun protection our products should be used in combination with other sun protective clothing that carries a UPF rating and classification in accordance with AS 4399.
Additional care tips
To ensure longevity of your multifunctional magnetic sun cover please follow our care instructions.
Opening the magnetic clasps.
Our magnets are strong, particularly when there is no additional fabric between the pair. We recommend pulling the magnets apart by holding the reinforced seam beneath each magnet pouch rather than pulling on the blanket fabric.
Washing your magnetic cover.
Our Multifunctional magnetic sun covers can go in both the washing machine and dryer. Ensure you snap each magnet together before putting it in the machines though (otherwise they will attach to the drum) and use a cold wash and cool/delicate dry cycle. High heat can damage the magnets. We recommend washing in a laundry bag too.
